Opinion article wins award from North Carolina College Media Association

I am so excited to share that an article I wrote for Technician, NC State's student news outlet, received a prize in the 2022 North Carolina College Media Association Statewide College Media Awards!

My article won second place in Opinion Writing for newspapers on a large campus (more than 8,500 students). It is titled, "Keep the 'ta-tas' out of Breast Cancer Awareness Month" and discusses why breast cancer awareness needs to focus more on the lives impacted by breast cancer and less on "saving the ta-tas."

You can read the full article online here. You can find the full list of results from the competition here.

Thank you so much to the NC College Media Association for giving my article this award! Big thanks to the Technician vol. 103 Opinion Editor, Mariana Fabian, for encouraging me to write an opinion article and assisting me along the way with edits. Thanks to Technician vol. 103 Design Editor Ellie Bruno for designing the sick graphic used as the visual for my piece and to Technician vol. 103 Shilpa Giri for helping with edits to my article. Additional thanks to Mariana and Shilpa for choosing to enter my piece in the competition in the first place. Winning this award means the world to me and I'm honored that the two of you put so much faith in me and my writing that you chose to have my article represent Technician's opinion section.
